This website is operated by Nicola Lloyd, trading as NL Counselling and Therapy with Nicola.

The information provided on this website is intended to give general information about my counselling services, therapeutic approach and how I work. It is not intended to replace professional medical, psychological, psychiatric or emergency advice.

Counselling is a collaborative process and each person’s experience will be different. Information on this website should not be taken as a guarantee of any particular outcome from counselling.

Professional practice

I provide counselling within the limits of my training, experience and professional competence and undertake appropriate professional supervision.

I am committed to working ethically, maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and protecting clients’ confidentiality and privacy.

Where applicable, my practice is guided by the ethical requirements of my professional membership and registration.

Confidentiality

Counselling is confidential. Information shared during counselling will normally remain confidential and will not be disclosed to other people without your consent.

There are, however, circumstances in which confidentiality may need to be limited. These may include situations involving serious risk of harm to you or another person, safeguarding concerns, legal requirements, or where disclosure is otherwise legally or ethically justified.

I also discuss my counselling work with a qualified supervisor as part of safe and ethical professional practice. Where client material is discussed in supervision, I take appropriate steps to protect your identity and confidentiality.

The limits of confidentiality will be discussed with you before or at the beginning of counselling so that you understand how your information will be handled.

Privacy and personal information

I take the privacy and security of personal information seriously.

If you contact me through this website, by email, telephone or another communication method, I may need to collect personal information such as your name, contact details and information relevant to your enquiry.

If you become a client, I may also collect information necessary to provide counselling safely and appropriately. This may include sensitive personal information.

Your information will only be collected, used and stored for legitimate purposes connected with providing and managing my counselling service, meeting professional responsibilities, maintaining appropriate records and complying with legal obligations.

Website enquiries

Submitting an enquiry through this website does not create a counselling relationship or guarantee an appointment.

Please do not use the website contact form or email to disclose information that you consider highly sensitive or urgent. A more appropriate and secure method of communication can be discussed before counselling begins.

I will respond to enquiries as soon as reasonably possible, subject to availability.

Emergencies and crisis support

NL Counselling and Therapy with Nicola is not an emergency or crisis service.

If you are in immediate danger or believe you may harm yourself or someone else, please contact 999 or attend your nearest Accident & Emergency department.

For urgent mental health support in England, you can also contact NHS 111 and select the mental health option, where available.

If you need someone to talk to, you can contact Samaritans on 116 123, free of charge, at any time.

Please do not rely on this website, email or a counselling appointment for immediate crisis support.

Appointments and counselling agreement

Before counselling begins, clients will be provided with information about the counselling arrangement and will be asked to agree to appropriate terms of working.

This will include matters such as:

session arrangements and duration;
fees and payment;
cancellations and missed appointments;
confidentiality and its limitations;
contact between sessions;
record keeping;
online counselling arrangements, where applicable;
professional supervision; and
ending counselling.

The counselling agreement will form the basis of the therapeutic relationship.

Complaints

I welcome clients raising concerns about their experience of counselling. If you have a concern, please raise it with me in the first instance so that I have an opportunity to listen and try to resolve the matter appropriately.

I am a member of a professional body with an applicable complaints procedure, clients may also have access to that organisation’s complaints process.
